FAQ

WHAT?

Klumpen™ is a complete, off-grid utility core containing everything required for modern life: solar-generated electricity, satellite broadband, shower, lavatory, and a compact kitchen.

All condensed into seven meticulously engineered square metres.

HOW?

Set it down anywhere on Earth. Press 'ON'. Enter the twenty-first century.

Electricity, water, heat, internet — no permits, no plumbers, no supplication to utility companies.

Quite literally: the modern world in a box.

WHO?

Conceived and designed by the architectural duo Himmelsfahrtskommando.

Amplified by Team Vex.

Produced under the quietly concerned supervision of The Great Exhibition.

PRICE?

Target retail: $35,000.

An aluminium extreme-conditions edition — for volcanoes, glaciers, and Norwegian gardens — $198,000.

WHY?

People dream of building their own house. Raising walls is simple enough. The devil resides in the utilities.

Water. Power. Drainage. Cables. Codes.

Klumpen™ handles all of it.

And because it is factory-built, it is radically less expensive than anything assembled piecemeal on site.

DEMOCRACY?

The first democracies emerged where people built their own houses: the Greeks, the Haudenosaunee, the early Nordics.

Property meant autonomy.
Autonomy meant voice.

Today, in the industrialised world only 0.05% of people live in a house they have built with their own hands.

Instead, we rent. Or mortgage.

But a democracy of tenants is not the same thing as a democracy of builders.

Klumpen™ is a small step backwards — towards ownership. If only of a shed in the woods.

CREDITS

THANKS

Our gratitude to the European Union (Horizon Europe), Umeå Kommun, Vinnova, and ArkDes — each brave enough to encourage the idea that individuals might once again design and build their own homes, without unnecessary administrative interference.

REMEMBER

Klumpen™ is best enjoyed with the Folktomt: 200 square metres of sovereign earth upon which you may erect whatever your imagination permits.
